How our guides and calculators are researched, written, checked and kept up to date.

What we publish

We publish calculators and explanations about car insurance in India. Our goal is to help readers understand their policy and their options. We are not trying to steer them towards any particular product or insurer.

Sources we rely on

In order of priority:

  1. Government notifications and gazettes (for example, third-party premium rates)
  2. IRDAI regulations, circulars and consumer material
  3. Standard policy wordings filed by insurers, and the former India Motor Tariff where its tables are still used
  4. Insurers' own published product documents

We don't base facts on other comparison or blog sites. Where we use an assumption, for example to estimate own-damage premiums, we say so on the page.

How calculators are checked

Every calculator's formulas live in one shared calculation engine. Automated tests cover normal cases, boundary cases (for example, a car that is exactly six months old) and invalid inputs. They run every time a calculator is changed. Rates are stored in one place. They are reviewed at least once a month, and straight away whenever the government or IRDAI announces a change to third-party premiums, GST or the standard tables. Each calculator shows the date the rates were last checked.

Writing standards

  • Plain language first. Technical terms are explained the first time they appear.
  • Specific numbers and worked examples instead of vague statements.
  • No promises of savings and no exaggerated claims.
  • Clear labels separating facts, estimates and opinion.

Who writes and checks the content

Every guide and calculator explanation is written by Yash Gupta, the founder of FinanceBudget. Yash is not a licensed insurance adviser, so the guides don't give advice about your specific policy. They explain how the standard rules work, using the sources above, and point you to your insurer or policy wording where your own terms matter. Each article page names its author and shows when it was published and last updated.

Independence

Content decisions are made by the author, not by advertisers. We don't accept payment to cover or rank a product. See our advertising disclosure.

Updates and corrections

Every guide shows its publication date and, when it has changed, the date it was last updated. If you spot an error, report it directly through the contact page. Include the page and, if you can, a source. We check reports within three working days and follow our corrections policy.
