Corrections Policy

How to report an error, and how we fix and disclose corrections.

Last updated

We try hard to get things right, and we fix them openly when we don't.

How to report an error

Use the contact form and tell us:

  • the page or calculator
  • what you think is wrong
  • a source for the correct information, if you have one

What we do

  1. We check the report against primary sources, usually within three working days.
  2. If it is a factual or calculation error, we correct the page or the calculator. For a calculation error, we also add a test so the same mistake can't come back.
  3. For a significant correction, one that changes a figure or a conclusion a reader might have relied on, we add a short note at the end of the article saying what was changed and when.
  4. Minor fixes, such as typos, broken links or wording that doesn't change the meaning, are made without a note.
  5. We reply to the person who reported the error.

Rate changes are not corrections

When a government notification or regulation changes a rate, we update the calculators and the affected guides and refresh the "last checked" date. That is an update, not a correction of an error.
